Stand By Me (Ben E. King Cover courtesy of Take 2 and YWCA Elgin)

Here’s another video that I took part of recently.

I got to play ukulele alongside my friend Korisa while two teens in the Take 2 Creative Camp (Laron and Jada) got to sing. We all played that timeless classic “Stand By Me”, and they sang while Korisa and I were their backing band. It was a lot of fun performing as I haven’t done music in a while. I even busted out a percussive strumming solo as I used my uke as both a drum and melodic device. Both Laron and Jada are talented singers and I’m honored to have been a part of this project.

Special thanks to YWCA Elgin and Take 2 Creative Camp.

So I got to be a part of a cool project recently.

The Take 2 Creative Camp is a Summer Camp based in Elgin at their YWCA. The teens in the program were able to do creative projects such as filming, screenwriting, editing, podcasting, photography, acting, art, and several other disciplines. One of the students named Techin was able to make a comic book, so we went to the Gail Borden Library to record voice overs for the comic book. I did the narration and voiced the hero Jumping Jack where I did an Irish accent. Korisa (my friend you’ve heard me talking about before) filmed each page and made the video of the final project.

Enjoy!

Friendship Friday: Oceans & Oceans

My pick for this week’s Friendship Friday is Oceans & Oceans!

I’ve known them for years and they have an awesome live show. They are a humble bunch that make some fantastic genre-blending music. If you ever get the chance to see them play, then please go. You won’t be disappointed.

Check out their split with fellow Elginites Home Burial here (it’s free or pay-what-you-want) : https://oceansandoceans.bandcamp.com/releases

Friendship Friday: Gareth Sitz

This Friendship Friday will be about Gareth Sitz this week!

She’s a playwright, actress, and a poet. Gareth has done a lot of great things in the community with the arts and outreach activities. I recently bought her chapbook of poems which was a great read, and the Adultery poem is featured in this video that I took back in January. Gareth has helped me become a better poet, lyricist, and even helped me to share the stuff I’ve been writing for years.
