Meet Connor Eck AKA Fafhrd.
He’s an experimental musician from my home state of Illinois. I’ve known him for years ever since he told me about his band Suzy LaRue & The Ruthless Ooze when they were starting out as a band. Fafhrd does a lot of synthesizer, dark ambient, and even some avant-pop based pieces across his discography. Most of his albums are free or pay-what-you-want on his Bandcamp page.
This is the big announcement. I’m going to do a year long project called Katauta 52. A katauta is a type of Japanese poetry style that uses 3 verses with a 5-7-7 syllabic form. Kind of like a haiku with two extra syllables.
Here are the rules of my project:
1: each song must have a katauta lyrics
2: there must be both spoken and sung lyrics
3: the song must be able to be played live should I have concerts
4: there is one song per week and it must be uploaded on Wednesday
5: no more than 5 notes in the instrumentation
Hope this works.
I didn’t tell anyone this, but I wanted to make a video for my stuff. Here’s my debut music video for the track “My Heart Is A Crater.” Feel free to share this video around with your friends. This video was done by my DIY video production thingamabob known as Autumn Peal Media. There’s a blog involving that, too. http://autumnpealmedia.wordpress.com. Feel free to check that out with my video and photo projects.
Don’t forget that this is on my EP Verses V.S. Anhedonia which is on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music, and other digital retailers. And of course…
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on this blog. My apologies. I really need to increase my discipline on posting things more often.
Anyways, I wanted to let you all know that ZAP Records just released a new compilation on their Bandcamp page that’s free or pay-what-you-want. It features Incomplete Specters from my debut EP which you can also find through ZAP Records or my own Bandcamp page. This compilation features my labelmates such as Willem Samuel, The Festal Shout, The Straight Suits, George Hugo, To Live As Sons, The Jim Achen Band, Captive Portal, and The Old-Timers! There are even non-ZAP artists like Anti-World System [Grrr Records], The Hoax [Thumper Punk Records], Praiser, Blast From Oblivion [SkyBurnsBlack Records], and False Idle [Thumper Punk Records]. There are some album cuts mixed in with exclusive songs you can’t find anywhere else.
Download it and listen to the mix of punk, experimental, hardcore, and folk tracks.
How do I revitalize a necrotized soul
To control vitality down to each scintilla
As my back becomes a pincushion for
Ending amicable bonds
I want to trust again
But it’s hard to trust when one dons
I want to trust again…
This is the first track to my debut EP. I wrote this as a small freeform poem when I’ve spiraled over the thoughts of friends betraying me or when some other people derogate me in any way. Truth is, I don’t trust a lot of people out there. I want to lash out at everyone, but I’ve bottled it up so much that I’ve become numb sometimes. It’s not a happy poem by any stretch of the imagination, but at least I’m honest about this kind of stuff.
Feel free to download it for free or to pay what you want. Let me know what you think. It’s also on several digital platforms.
Special thanks to ZAP Records for distributing my debut EP!
It’s now officially one more day until I release my debut EP. Feel free to visit http://ospreyshire.bandcamp.com or http://zaprecords84.bandcamp.com once it is revealed to the public on 11/30.
It’s been quite a ride being creative and all. You see, I decided to give this whole spoken word thing a try while mixing it up with some short acousmatic tracks to accompany them. Maybe it’s pretentious of me to do some avant-garde stuff with these poems. Hahaha. Anyways, my debut EP Verses Vs. Anhedonia will be released on November 30th courtesy of ZAP Records, my Bandcamp page, and other online music retailers.
